You’ve bought a plot in Patna. A relative recommends someone who makes “a good naksha for a few thousand rupees.” A quick search shows dozens of websites offering a ghar ka naksha online, some even free. It feels like the sensible first step.
It is a natural first step, and it’s also where many homebuilders make their first expensive mistake. Not because a naksha is bad, but because they assume it is the whole design. It isn’t.
Ghar ka naksha (घर का नक्शा) and architectural design are related, but they are not the same thing. One is a drawing. The other is a process that produces many drawings, decisions and checks. In this guide, we explain the difference in simple terms, in English with Hindi and Hinglish alongside, and help you decide what your project needs.
Ghar Ka Naksha Kya Hota Hai? (What Is a Naksha?)
“Naksha” simply means a map or layout. When people say ghar ka naksha or makan ka naksha, they usually mean a floor plan: a 2D, top-down drawing that shows where each room sits on your plot, how big it is, and where the doors, windows and staircase go. Some nakshas also include a basic front elevation.
Simple bhasha mein: naksha aapko batata hai ki kaunsa kamra kahan hoga.
That’s genuinely useful. A floor plan helps you picture your home and start conversations. But it answers only one question: how are the rooms arranged? It doesn’t answer how the building stands, how it breathes, how it looks from the street, how it gets approved or how it gets built.
